We are currently looking to purchase a brownstone in Stuyvesant Heights or surrounding areas. We are not yet in a rush as we are still selling our current home. We have found the search to be a bit overwhelming as it seems that most of the worthwile homes in the area are already in contract by the time they hit the web. Can anyone suggest reliable resources to help us conduct our search in this area. Any tips would also help. Are the local real estate offices, like the one on Stuyvesant, the best bet? Is it better to drive around on weekends hunting open houses?
Thank you in advance.
Corcoran so far is the only one that did not have their banker call me and hour after first talking to me to try and get me to pre-approve with them, and also poach the business on the house we are currently trying to sell.
Unfortunately shadiness and incompetence seem to run rampant in the Bed Stuy real estate market. I’ve never experienced such a dysfunctional home buying process.
I’m actually of the opinion that the local brokers, with the exception of the guy on the corner of MacDonough and Stuyvesant, are all shady. I’ve had really good dealings with the people at Corcoran – the ones I’ve met have all been really professional.
I did not have a good experience with Flateau. We actually put an offer in on the house on Macon but because he did not like some of the things we were asking for, he said that he had to snail-mail the offer to the owner which sounded like complete BS to us. We followed up with him a few times and he told us that he was waiting for the seller to snail-mail back her response. The moron then called us about 2-3 weeks after we submitted the offer to invite us to an open house he was having there. We reminded him that we had already placed an offer and could feel him turning red on the other end of the line so we just hung up on him and moved on.
sorry…www.flateaurealty.com Looks like they just sold a place on macon St that I saw last night.
Another local broker is http://www.flateau
Hi Javi – I’m in the same boat as you. It seems that the listings online are very outdated (in some cases by 2 years) and that a good portion of the local real estate agents might as well be creatures from another planet operating in a parallel universe where phone calls/emails don’t ever need to be returned. They seem to operate under the “oh, you want to see the house before you buy it? How silly” assumption.
Retiring to PA eventually. Sad to leave the neighborhood just as a number of new places are about to open up.
Dave: Are you leaving Brooklyn or just the neighborhood?
