Bad Experience with Anderson Renewal
We just had a representative, his name was Peter, from Anderson Renewal windows (the Long Island branch) come to give us an estimate. The salesman told us we HAD to purchase the windows right then and there or we would pay a higher price later. We were quoted 9K, and when we told him we…
We just had a representative, his name was Peter, from Anderson Renewal windows (the Long Island branch) come to give us an estimate. The salesman told us we HAD to purchase the windows right then and there or we would pay a higher price later. We were quoted 9K, and when we told him we had to think about it, he made us feel bad that he drove all the way out here (to Brooklyn). We definitely had to think about a 9K investment, but he kept pressing the issue that if we signed right then and there, we would save 2K. He also blamed this price difference on “all these new things coming out of Washington”. There were a few other times he showed his conservative political colors.
When it was clear we were not going to sign a contract, Peter called his manager (on my phone- his was not getting reception) and told him we were not going to buy the windows. He held the phone out to let us hear his boss say (yell), “tell them we are never coming to their house ever again.” I asked for my phone back from Peter and told his boss not to worry, they never need to come back. Peter left immediately after. My husband then called his boss back to clarify what happened. My husband was then yelled at and told that we would NEVER have Anderson windows in our house and he, the boss, would see to it. Well, I am not sure we want Anderson windows in our house now.
It’s certainly true that most of the crap coming out of Washington these days is just that. My political leanings aside (as well as yours), these guys are bad. Sending him packing was the right thing to do.
BTW, how many windows for $9,000???
He did you a favor by acting like an obnoxious idiot. Probably would have been a nightmare to deal with.
by the way, your political comment was out of place and irrelevant.
I used to be in sales. These tactics do work. These guys are just trying to make sales. I used to spend a lot of time with clients and they would buy from someone else, for reasons that made no sense. Often I would lose sales to the high pressure salesmen. However that is the sales game, full of dead ends.
I wouldn’t rule out Anderson because of one distributor. They don’t make them or install them, they just sell them and sell installation.
you should never sign for a high pressure sales pitch,,,i am a contractor and advise clients to take their time to make a decision..call the manufacturer to complain about these idiots
This whole scenario reminds me almost exactly of my visit from the Empire Carpet and Flooring representative- pressure tactics, speakerphone call to boss, a “quick decision” discount, and then leaving mad after not getting “I need to think about it” for a few thousand dollar order.
Sorry you went through that- these people needs to realize that pressure tactics never really work.
Best of luck getting your windows done!
How bizarre. I got the same baloney from a flooring salesman once — and decided to go with a competitor for that reason.
Incidentally, I’ve had both Window Fix and EZ Tilt/Historical Windows out this week and they were both lovely, lovely, lovely.
Must have had so much trouble because they were “conservative.”
Wow,sounds like a bunch of idiots. I never liked the idea of sales people coming to my house for a free “no obligation” quote. How many windows were they quoting for? 9K sounds like a lot. We purchased 10 wooden frame Anderson windows (the good ones-renewal windows are the budget ones for Anderson) for about 6K. We did the work ourselves. You may want to try Window Palace on McDonald Avenue and Ave. C. He has everything on display, and is very helpful. His prices are also very competitive. He can recommend some installers in the area to do the work, and it will probably cost you a lot less.
Call Brooklyn Window and Doors. They are a Andersen distributor. Ask to speak to Mike T.
