We would like to move one of our Victorian marble mantles from the second floor down to the parlor floor. Can anyone recommend a contractor who specializes in this type of work? We were thinking about trying to move it ourselves, but if we damage the mantle it may cost us more to repair than moving it.

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

  1. Thank you everyone for your kind compliments and insight.
We will give Manny a call and try to arrange a meeting with him.

  2. Wow, that is beautiful! Another nod to Manny. Maybe he’s the only one who does this.

  3. I have to agree with Mopar. But talk to Manny about it. He has also been buying mantles, so he might have a larger sized living room one for you. But give him a call. He is a great guy.

  4. That’s a particularly fine fireplace mantle you have there. I also recommend Manny LaSalle. You cannot use a regular contractor for this. You must use a fireplace chimney expert, and Manny is the best. He’s also a lovely person and his prices are reasonable.

Also, just FYI: Bedroom floor mantles are different (smaller and less grand) than parlor mantles. You might consider whether a bigger and fancier mantle would be more appropriate in the parlor.

  5. What a beautiful fireplace. I have to recommend Manny Lasalle. Manny is well regarded, and highly recommended fireplace expert mason, who works in brownstone Brooklyn. He knows everything there is to know about fireplaces. He put two together for me from pieces I bought from Eddie Hibbert and installed them. He added a few pieces which were missing, arranged for some iron work to be soddered, had my hearth stones dipped in a chemical bath to remove stains. Manny can do anything with fireplaces — install them, fix them, make them functional (and safe) rebuild flues, fix chimneys, etc. Call Manny and also google him on Brownstoner. 917-292-1825
