Hi,
We’re planning some projects for our house, nothing too major – replacing an old front window with a new bay, putting up a pergola in the back yard to give us privacy.
Before we get going, I’m wondering if there is a resource somewhere that tells you what kinds of project s require a permit.
Any input would be appreciated.
Forgot to add that if this is Landmarked or in a Landmark district, then you will need a permit.
From DOP TPPN0199:
1. Installation of replacement windows (balcony doors, etc.) with no modification of existing masonry opening. – no permit required
For anything that invovles the facade of the building it will depend on certain sizing regulations and are defined under DOB TPPN 1/99. All other areas of work need permits unless it is considered as ordinary maintenance work (not new). You can email me at brooklynexpediter@gmail.com if you want a copy of the tppn.
You can do direct replacement of windows, same size. If the pergola is attached to the ground by a foundation, then it requires a permit.
