Carpenter Recommendation?
I am looking for THE BEST carpenter you have ever worked with for a series of large projects in my home in Park Slope. I’ve hired countless tradespeople over the years, paid them well, and found most to be shoddy and unreliable. I’m looking for the absolute best.

Yes, Omar is my neighbor here at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. He and Belda run ARTISTIC WOOD CRAFTS, INC. 646-541-3409 artisticwoodcrafts@verizon.net. You can not get better, more knowledgeable or experienced, old world craftsmanship.
It sounds like you are looking more for a plasterer/painter than a carpenter? That might be why you can’t find the right person, as almost no one is excellent at combined trades.
The guy I would have otherwise recommended is strictly a carpenter. Maybe someone in the list above could help.
Omar is a serious, meticulous, amazing carpenter who has a mill shop in the Brooklyn Navy yard. He has worked for years building and refurbishing doors in historic Brownstone Brooklyn and has done absolutely beautiful millwork, cabinetry and other wood proects. He has a passion of historic restoration — he rebuilt a set of doors for me and has created and installed historically correct moldings in my my vestibule. In some cases he has restored entire brownstones with historic moldings and he has showed me examples of other projects. I am going to be getting him to do bookcases for me as well as rebuilding pocket doors (want to take out wood panels and put in specialty etched glass). He is a perfectionist and did gorgeous work for me.
His number is 646-541-3409.
Don’t know if he is still updating his website but this is what I have for him.

Good luck!!
Hello bkleinberg,
I know a guy who is licensed and honest also reliable who offers free estimates and also beat any proven estimates his name is Dan and you can reach him at 718 485-1044 I know for a fact that you would not be disappointed if you give him a chance.
Gavin Young Maloney. He’s a finish carpenter and cabinetmaker. See the cabinet he designed and built for a house in Clinton Hill/Bed Stuy at right — he advertises here — it’s gavinyoungmaloney.com
It’ll blow your mind.
He’s done some small simple work for us, very neat and extremely reliable and fun to work with. He is a licensed contractor.
OP: I would prefer a licensed guy but will work with anyone who is skilled and reliable. The initial scope of work is to repair/replace two exterior door frames including the molding and casings. I want someone skilled in finishing work because I would expect them to prime and paint it as well.
Beyond that, I have a sizeable closet construction project, wall repair, painting, plastering and and a variety of other stuff that I have been holding off on because I can;t find the right guy.
Roberto Gil http://www.robertogil.com/ – not a carpenter per se but designer. he has his own wood shop and also executes plans (though obviously prefers to help on the design side). he does a lot of kids furniture but also does built ins and commercial stuff.
Damian Sherlock 917-698-1638. He is a contractor and his regular carpenter crew guys are great. Did some very solid wood work in my building’s lobby.
I can very highly recommend a guy I expect to put to work myself. But are you looking for a licensed carpenter/GC or a carpenter?
What, in general, is the scope?
