We are in the middle of our house remodel. We will have a 60″ wide opening between the kitchen and the adjacent family room that we would like to close of occasionally with a 60″ wide pocket door that tucks into a wall on one side of the door. The door retailer had told me that they are able to join two MDF doors together to get a 60″ wide pocket door. However, now they are saying that it may not be stable enough. The alternative would be to have a 60″ wide pocket door custom built….which may be too expensive. Any suggestions from your experience? My research is telling me that there is no door manufacturer that builts a pocket door that is 60″ wide. I would appreciate any advice on this issue. Thanks in advance.
Any chance you need pocket doors still? We have a pair of 33″ doors we’ve just pulled out of our parlor that we’re looking to sell. contact :: house -at – mixicon.com
Look at some of the architectural salvage (or similar) sites.
You’ll find it.
And you’ll also probably like it more than two doors glued togheter!
A 5 foot wide pocket door might be kind of hard to open and close. Would two 2-1/2 foot doors, with two pockets, on either side, be practicable in your space?
There is a cool company out of Brooklyn called Raydoor that makes some nice doors and movable partitions.
I have seen Antique 60″ pocket doors like the one on this link.

Or you could go with two 30″ pine doors joined together. I think that would look much better than MDF. Check out local salvage yards first.
