  1. Yes, this house appears to have been in good condition with unusual and charming details. Maybe someone told the owners it needed a “gut” renovation — and every surface had to be thrown out because of possible lead paint contamination — maybe they turned it into a “loft.”

    Did anyone catch the Harlem town house renovation in the Wall Street Journal online? She threw out six fireplaces because they had lead paint.

  2. Yes, and this one, it seems, has (or should I say had) a lot of original features still remaining. I don’t understand why people buy these houses just to rip everything out, when there are plenty already stripped of all their architectural detail to be had.
