I just had the stairs from the parlor to the 4th floor of my brownstone rebuilt by Bill of Fine Circular Stairs. He and his crew did a careful and beautiful job. The once creaky staircase that felt like it might collapse is now solid and looks fantastic. All for a reasonable price and super fast turnaround. I heartily recommend Circular Stairs: 718-218-9051.

  1. I was considering Bill and the NJ Stair Expert. I like Bill, but they seemed a little disorganized. I would _love_ to see some pics though to be able to judge. Bill is about half the price of SoxCo which both scares and entices me.

  2. That’s great, I’m glad they did such a terrific job. We will go with them if we ever replace, but for now the stairs appear to be hanging on and not deteriorating. They sound awful though. Crack, crack, crack!

  3. They replaced treads and risers. They did not match the wood but offered a choice of oak or pine. The oak is close to the existing oak floors, but not quarter sawn like the original parquet. I assumed matching exactly would be super expensive so we didn’t look into that option. Also, once the vinyl that was covering the stairs was lifted up we found the treads and risers were pine. I’d assumed they were oak to match the floors and am not sure what I would use if I were restoring rather than just fixing the stairs and making them look better. We managed to salvage the stairs from parlor to garden level. Not everyone would care for the 100s of nail holes and seriously worn condition but I really like them.
