I am am currently living in Manhattan and kind of over the hustle and thinking Red Hook may be the answer. Craigslist is not cooperating and wondering if anyone has an abode they wish to rent or suggestions on where to look to find the right abode without leveraging a broker.

  1. Me again… my friend has been looking for an apt. as well, which is why I am up on all this. The phone # for the Van Brunt/Commerce place is: 718 834 8675. My friend phoned the one above the Hope and Anchor and it still under renovation, but will be $1600 I think when it’s done. Good luck!

  2. There are a few apartments for rent that have signs in the window with phone numbers right now. One is on Van Brunt right after Commerce, another is above the Hope and Anchor. I assume those would be straight to the owner. The building next door to me has an apartment for rent, but I believe that goes through Frank Galeano. You could try coming and wandering around, and that way get a better idea of whether you wanted to live here, too.

  3. Brooklyn is tough without a broker.

If you decide to use one, I recommend Frank Galeano RE. I work with Daniel over there on occasion when co-broking and he has always been straight with my clients and flexible with fees. They have great listings in Red Hook and the Columbia Street Waterfront.
