Moving Kitchen to Parlor
How much (ballpark) would it cost to move a kitchen from the garden floor to the parlor floor including permits, etc. No change of walls just moving the appliances to the same location one floor up. Could a general contractor do this? Does it need an architect? An expeditor? Who would be called first?

GKW, did you have all the electric and plumbing and gas hookups already in place?
I moved kitchen from 3rd floor to my parlor floor – used all the same cabinets, sink etc. We bought a few extra cheap cabinets (unfinished wood) from home depot and a butcher block counter top. cost? basically nothing but the labor – some great Mexicans I know did it – and about $300 for cabinets. Took a day and we filed no paperwork…
Garden floor is what the DOB calls the Basement, and Parlor is the first floor. You usually step down a few steps from the sidewalk, under the stoop, into the garden floor or basement, and up the stoop to the parlor or first floor. If there’s a floor under the garden floor/basement, then that’s a cellar.
to MCS:
parlor floor is the main floor of the brownstone. This is where the stoop stair lead you. In many cases there is a complete floor under parlor floor (the floor facing garden and had entry under the stoop). It is called garden floor.
Usually the floor above parlor was for bedrooms and floor above it for help and children.
What the heck are a garden floor and a parlor floor?
You need an architect to file the plans showing the relocation. The contractor can bid from the plans created. There are several of us here on the board. Give a few a call and see who fits.
