Doorbell
My brownstone’s door bell is not working. When this happened in the past I simply replaced to bell and it worked. Not this time. I can not seem to find where the power source is for the bell. No breakers are tripped. WHat is the easiest way to fix this problem?

the wireless bells are so embarrassingly cheesy looking…hire a electrician experienced in low voltage work
Just buy one of those wireless bells. You stick the bell on the door frame and plug in the chimer into an outlet anywhere in your home. Problem solved for $30 or so.
the power source, transformer, may be located on the side of your breaker box. I’ve seen them in other places, but most common is at the box.
as someone said above, check the button first.

When my bell stopped working a year or so ago I checked to see if there was power at the buttons (both at the main door and under the stoop). When there wasn’t, I checked the transformer which WAS working. Being too lazy to check for shorts in the ancient bell wire, I installed a wireless bell. The buttons are ugly plastic, but at least they’re small and unobtrusive. FWIW the electronic chime sounds much nicedr than my old setup, which had a buzzer for downstairs and a bell for upstairs.
It’s probably the transformer. If you have voltmeter, you can touch the two screws of the transformer to the two leads of the voltmeter and you should see it register power. If you don’t see it register anything, the voltmeter is bad and needs to be replaced.
Check the button first. They will wear out over time. If you touch both wires together and the bell rings, it’s the button. If no bell rings, check the transformer in your basement. Most often it’s near the breaker box. Turn the breaker that feeds the transformer and replace it. If you still have no bell check your connections.
