Built-In Bookcase
Hello! We are looking to have a large built-in bookcase built on one whole wall of our living room. We are not sure where to start looking for someone to do this – does anyone here have great recommendations for a company/individual who specializes in built-ins? Thank you!

I would highly recommend Chris and Dorothy Stachecki, architects who are now contractors, who built a great cabinet/shelf system in our bedroom. They custom built most of it in their shop and brought it in sections to our coop apartment. This was great since it minimized the dust. They agreed to get the work done within a certain timeline (two weeks before baby was due) and were complete early.

I HIGHLY recommend Hans Gullickson. He’s a skilled & artistic carpenter and he’s currently working on a custom-built media center with a plasma mount for me (based on the Muro unit that DWR sells, but for a much better price!). His prices are very reasonable, his ideas are great and his work is excellent. He’s been an absolute pleasure to work with and I am looking forward to future projects with him as we have quite a few custom solutions we’d like to implement in our studio to better utilize our space.

I did a similar thing a couple of years ago, and was very pleased with the work of a young designer named Gokhan Doguer. His team was extremely competent and professional in designing, painting and installing floor-to-ceiling bookcases along one entire wall of my living room, as well as a media cabinet for my HD television and stereo system. Not cheap, but well worth it as it has enhanced my quality of life and my property value immensely.

Zach and Pavel did almost all the projects in my old loft buildings, one apartment after another. For me they built three bedrooms out of bookcases and a separate room, for one guy they helped him build a whole 1200 square foot 2nd floor
they’re called the loftmen

George Evageliou is the best.
Ryu Iida made some beautiful built-ins for my place. His designs were great and he is Japanese woodworker. His team was punctual, courteous, and a detail oriented. I paid a little more than I wanted, but it was worth it considering that everything went smoothly and the cases are really well made. His email is brooklynartisans@gmail.com
