I’ve heard that some folks have glass domes covering their basement hatches (found in the front and back of bstones..)

This is instead of those metal boxes that generally prevent water from entering basement.

This sounds fantastic, but I’ve never seen it. Anyone know a vendor for this, and or have pictures?

Feedback appreciated!

  1. We did this on two brownstones. Use lexan, have it built by a skylight guy, attach it to the concrete using an iron frame built by an iron monger. We put security doors in place in the basement. The doorframe is also built and installed by the iron monger. You should also consider putting an iron ladder in the coal shute as a fire escape. It works out very well.

  2. There is a good skylight manufacturer on 6th street off 4th Avenue called Superior Tinsmith. They would make anything you want. You will need a builder to attach it to the hole and do everything that entails.

  3. There is a fellow that fabricates skylights (the old fashioned kind) but is open to modifications.
I have forgotten the name, but he is located on Smith,
between Garnet and Hamilton across from the Oil Depot..
