We’re re-doing our bathrooms, and wondering if folks had a source for toilets, tile, etc. We’re not looking for anything special. We’ve gone to Lowe’s and Home Depot, which generally carry what we want, but they never have them in stock. (Or enough of them, anyway.) So, should we just suffer through big-box ordering, or is there someplace in Brooklyn we can get 3 Kohler or American Standard toilets, etc., without the wait?

  2. We used Home and Stone. Never actually went there, our contractor just set us up with a sales guy who ordered what we’d spec’d from fancier showrooms in manhattan, but they were good by way of price and service.

  3. I like an outfit called Renovators Supply up in New England. They have a good website, helpful phone people and at least the last time I ordered anything, excellent delivery service. They have modern plumbing fixtures that fit the period of a brownstone. They also have tons of doorknobs, hinges, cabinets, etc.

  4. if you are looking to save money – there are a few stores owned by Chinese on 65th st. between 7th and 8th ave.

  5. I second Park Slope plumbing–their sales staff is very nice and helpful, they can order just about anything, and their prices were competitive with what we found online.

  6. For fixtures, but not tile, try Park Slope Plumbing—the showroom section to the left when you enter (rather than the counter). They either stock or can order and deliver nearly any fixture you want: http://bit.ly/9MRb9w

  7. There are quite a number of Home Depot around the 5 boroughs. If they have what you want, and you have a car, I would imagine a longer drive would simply solve the problem for you…
