Need some opinions on an estimate I received from a Plumber for some work in my 3 family/story house in Greenpoint:
I will buy:
2 vintage style shower faucets and shower rings for two claw foot tubs
1 new kitchen sink faucet
1 backyard faucet with 2 cut off valves
Plumber will do the following:
Install both shower faucets (mounted on tubs interior end wall) and their shower curtain rings (secure them to wall and/or ceiling)
Install new kitchen sink faucet
Install the backyard faucet
Re-attach one bathroom sink bowl to its cabinet (the original silicone dried and the bowl descended about an inch below where it was originally)
Repair a cold water leak in my second floor bathroom (the pipe that comes up through the floor and the join for the pipe that lead to the sink and toilet has a slow leak
Check my first floor bathroom’s tub to see why the cold water pressure to the tub is so low (it could be the faucet which will be replaced, but if it is the pipe, then he will replace that.
I believe that if he has to install a new cold water pipe for the tub or for the 2nd floor bathroom leak (hope it’s just the join that is leaking) than any extra pipe is included…and I will ask him that to confirm.
So, for him and one helper to do all of the above, he is asking for $1,000.
What do you think?
Thank you for your feedback.
Whenever working with a new residential plumbing business, it is often best to get the opinion of another professional. Unless the company or individual is known to have an excellent reputation, double checking the estimates and costs of projects and repairs can be really useful for determining the fairness and validity of proposed costs. http://www.mtsinccoldlake.ca

Thanks everyone…
I hired one of the posted Electrician’s that I found here in the Forum who people had written high marks on. I liked his work and so I asked him if he could recommend a plumber. He referred me to the one that he has been using on a number of his jobs. I felt good with this person after his visit to see what we had. He’s confirmed that he will include in his price any additional piping that is necessary. I realize the ‘hire at your own risk’ element. We are going to go forward with him. I will report back when done…

I agree you’re getting off cheap, not to say this guy doesn’t know what he is doing or he does, AGREED, hire at your own risk.
Although Master Plumber is right, those are jobs that I could do myself and do them properly and I’m not licensed either.
Did this guy come referred by anyone?? I think that’s the more important point.
No way a licensed plumbing company can work that cheaply.
The price is very attractive, but hire at your own risk.
Sounds very reasonable. Figure two days with him at $100 per hour and helper at $40, 6 hours a day = 12 hours X $140 = $1,680, so you’re getting off cheap. Any one of those jobs could entail unanticipated problems. Also, figure $250 -300 for each one of these jobs if you were to have them done seperately.
Let us know how it goes and if you’d recommend him after the jobs are done.
