Looked an an apartment located above the garage in a large building (over 100 units). Wondering what the ramifications of that might entail.

  1. Agree with the door noise vibration issue. Also, in winter the garage will probably not be heated to the degree that your apartment above will be. Unless the underside of the floor slab (garage ceiling) is well insulated you will feel a colder floor.

  2. From the fact that this building has over 100 apartments it sounds like it’s the entrance to the parking garage underneath. At a minimum you will hear the garage door opener and if it is the parking garage entrance you’ll hear it several times a day. It may not be loud but you’ll still hear it.

  3. there are a great many more concerns living above a repair garage than a parking garage. For instance: the neumatic wrenches they use all day, vibrations from operating their lifts, exhaust fumes, and worst of all paint re-spray > those toxic fumes rise and linger for a *long* time.

Agreed on the gate/door vibrations of private parking garages.

  4. Whether it is an autoshop or a parking garage, noise and vibration may be a consideration. I would want to visit it at all hours to check it out. If there is a gate that goes up and down every time a vehicle enters or exits, these have a limited lifespan and get extremely noisy when they’re coming to the end of their life. Proceed with caution.
