Just wondering what people generally are paying per hour for a house cleaner?

I am currently paying around $33/hour and three hours so $100 which at some level feels a bit over the top.

But perhaps this is right in the range. Any insight into rates for decent cleaning? Our keeper is really good and certainly quite efficient!

  1. Just remember you’re supposed to be paying payroll taxes if you pay your cleaning person more than $1700 a year (and you don’t employ them through an agency that takes care of all this). Or if you don’t, don’t be hating on all the people who pay their nannies under the table, depriving them of social security benefits later in life.

  2. i pay mine 80 bucks, she gets to my place in the afternoon, spends about 2-3hrs cleaning my 2bdrm/1bath, and while she cleans, she cooks. so when i get home i have a great meal waiting for me! (always a south american dish since that’s where she’s from)

  3. Oh yeah, Kens makes a good point, Good impressions is bonded and they pay for damage, breakages or losses. I give the tip because the cleaner doesn’t get the whole amount of the payment. They share with the agency. If you want to get a non-bonded, insured person you can find them and pay less but you then have to be sure from recommendations etc that they are good/honest.

  4. Good impressions cleaning charges 95 for 6 hours and I give the person a 15-20 tip, so that comes to what everyone here is saying — around 20 an hour.

  5. It really depends – I hired a woman based on high recommendations – she charges $100 and we have a 3BR 2 Bath duplex. She is extremely thorough and efficient and shows up on time every other week, She also manages to finish up in an avg. of 4 hours so technically we are paying $25/hour which seems crazy high. However, we have had cheaper housecleaners who in the past would not show up/ change schedule from week to week or skimp on certain areas of cleaning, or be difficult to communicate with, etc. So you have to take in all these factors I guess!

  6. wow you people pay way too much. Going rate is about 10 to 12 an hour for people that I have used. They are not from any insured agency. Just referrals from other people who have used them.
