I suddenly received notice that an electrical inspection by the DOB is needed for an open permit from years ago before I bought the house and had my own renovations and permits cleared, including an electrical inspection! Seems the permit not from me was lost in the system until the electrician thought he should close it and therefore making it my new issue. What I don’t understand is why my electrical work and inspection, which was cleared by a DOB inspector walking through the house, doesn’t override and automatically make the permit and work supposed done in this house many years prior? Make sense? It’s obvious that whatever work I had done met and cleared the standards of those way back when. Any thoughts/advice? Just a headache and somewhat a concern to have people I don’t know/didn’t hire tell me they’re coming in my house and I have to reschedule my plans at short notice (one week). Already checked the online DOB website and the appt is there so legit but still wondering if anyone can tell me why a more recent inspection wouldn’t make the much older permit void?

THANKS in advance.

  1. Someone must have scheduuled it for some reason. When you have an inspection it is only for the application submitted so it doesn’t automatically clear out the others. You have to chaeck with the licensed electrician as why there is something scheduled now and SOMETIMES if your electrician will certify that the other part was also included and is ok within the other scope you may get away with it.
