I do know that there is a significant BTU loss for very cold days (47f or below).
We live in a one floor 1200sq ft 3 bedroom apartment with large windows and poorly insulated walls. Drafts are an issue with our current HVAC units.
We received several varying opinions from contractors regarding needs. One said that a 6+6+9+15 would work fine with on outdoor unit. The other said that we would need two outdoor units with a much larger 24,000 btu unit for out living room.
Any suggestions or feedback regarding installation companies and experience is much appreciated.
Very impressed with Sam thank you!
He came up with a great solution and really walked us through the process. I am waiting on price, but hopefully it is reasonable. Cannot wait to remove these crappy ptac units from our windows.
Also if anyone knows of a good General Contractor for the patch work needed, as well as brick and glass work,it would be really helpful.
Thanks again!
I’ve had 2 installed and find them to be excellent. Installations are very tricky – best repair person/installer I’ve found is:

Thanks all. This would have to be our primary heating source. We are in a single floor 3 bedroom condo that previously had Islandair Gas/electric HVAC units under the window. They are noisy, break often and generally do not cool or heat the apartment that well.
Zarathustra: “hv setup” – Not familiar with this setup. Can you explain?
The questions comes down to whether or no our quoted multizone system of 6+6+12+15 would do the job, or do we need to go 9+9+12+18 with possibly doubling up on outdoor units.
Unfortunately or fortunately, we have very large windows in the front and back of our unit that were poorly installed. This combined with the current units lack of proper insulation makes it almost impossible to maintain heat/ac.
Thanks again for the feedback!
We have had the Mr. Slim units in our house for three years and are extremely pleased with them. The heating pumps in the winter are great. We keep the whole house cooler now and just spot heat the bedroom in the evening and the kitchen in the morning to take the chill off. Not a big increase in electric bills either. We also used Iceberg and were very satisfied. One note though, make sure you use gravity for the draining of the condensation. At first we had pumps to pump the water up to the roof but the noise was irritating every 10 minutes or so. They came back, took out the pumps and fed the tubes into a drain. Again, we love it especially these last few weeks.
We just (in last 2 weeks) had Mr Slim installed in our 2-story, single-family, frame construcion 1600 sq ft home. I can’t speak to heating but we don’t intend to use it as primary heat source, will continue to use baseboard heaters. But we like the idea of being able to turn these on to quickly begin warming an individual room, and then turn them off once baseboard kicks in so we keep heating costs down.
Iceberg did ours, and they were wonderful. I am happy to discuss any reference questions you may have.

about 2 years we put 2 fujitsu ductless units air-conditioner/heaters – one in front parlor , one above it in master bedroom , total 24ton compressor in backyard running cables, pipes thru basement up thru conduit …they both work great in summer & winter – i have oil heat & keep thermostat around 62 so using heater alot … highly recommend these units , very quiet …we used victory bros 718.526.4718
I have a Mr. Slim in the condo I won, and when i lived there used it for heat in the winter. It did fine. No issue at all really.
Do not consider any split duct system for heating. They rely on heat pumps and (backup) electric resistance heat. The heat pumps are not for our climate, and you will not know which mode the unit is operating in. You do not want to heat your house with electric resistance heat — very high operating cost. If you want a heating solution, go with an hv setup.
