This weekend, I saw this scattering of food – cereal, hard boiled eggs a toasted sandwich, a pile of sugar and some kind of liquid – on the sidewalk in front of the storefront that used to house The Door Store – Atlantic near Nevins Street. I’ve seen similar food on the sidewalk on Nevins Street between Atlantic Avenue and Schermerhorn at least twice in recent weeks. Does anyone know what this is about? Has anyone seen who’s leaving it? My guess is it’s either some bizarre Santeria offering or a resident with issues at the assisted living facility on Nevins Street is leaving the food behind for a reason only he/she knows. Regardless, we’ve got to nip this in the butt ASAP before the rats from Schermerhorn migrate to Atlantic Avenue and beyond. If someone has seen the person spreading this food out on the sidewalk, please let us know. Thanks.

  1. Hey Rosy, thanks for the info. There’s a new bodega being constructed on the corner and I believe the folks working there are Indian. So are the folks in the tiny pharmacy on Nevins. Perhaps they’re Hindu. I’ll ask them if they have any idea how the food wound up there.

  2. I don’t think it’s a Santeria offering, but I do know that Hindu’s also place food outside during certain times of the year. My neighbor does this only she puts out a bowl of milk with food on a plate. I never saw it scattered like in the photo.

  3. If you think it’s someone from the assisted living facility, why don’t you go to them? They’d probably recognize the ingredients & could keep an eye out for whoever is doing it.

  4. Breakfast of champions. Just don’t nip me in the butt. Or the bud. Sounds like something inspector gadget or deputy dog might be interested in. Or the hardy boys. Scooby doo perhaps?

  5. Under, yes. Visible in large numbers on the sidewalk at night like they are on Schermerhorn, no.

daveinbedstuy, would I still be here to talk about it if I drank that stuff?
