We are renovating our kitchen and putting in a new, somewhat shallow (23″ deep) closet that will go to the ceiling (117″). The closet is in the dining room. I got tow nice salvaged oak panel doors from Eddie in Ft. Greene which are 83″ high and 27″ wide. I am looking for some ideas for small doors (about 30″ high) above the panel doors for access to the upper reaches of the closet since it will be hard access up there since the closet is so shallow. I am trying to avoid the look of flat doors that are “supposed” to look as if they are part of the wall that plague so many 70’s era apt. renovations. I wanted something that would compliment the salvaged oak panel doors.

Recessed lighting question as well. I want the option to put in compact florescent in the future but I don;t want bulky large cans up there. Any ideas?

Finally, I have a GE 30″ over the range microwave for sale (includes exhaust fan). It is about 2 yrs. old and in pristine condition.
Thanks everyone.

  1. If you go with one-half the number of cans that your designer recommends (sound policy since they always put too many and it looks ugly), you can afford LED cans which are way energy efficient, last forever (100000 hrs) and come in a range of color temperatures (warm is best).
