What Is This Green Gunk?
What is this green gunk that is creeping up the back walls of my house, and how do I get rid of it? I’ve tried scrubbing it and hosing it, to no avail. Is there some kind of heavy-duty cleaning product that would work? I’d be grateful for any suggestions!

SimpleGreen may work, and it’s more eco-friendly.
Thanks, Minard, I was wondering how it could possibly be algae. I’ll try to clorox route that you and others have recommended. Thanks!
First of all it isn’t algae. Algae is aquatic, it’s seaweed.
What you have is a moss-like growth called lichen. If you don’t liken the lichen, use a little dilute clorox. If it has really taken hold, it may leave gray marks. c’est la vie!
Thanks for all of the suggestions!
if it’s limestone, DON’T do any of of the above. You’ll damage the stone. Powerwashing erodes it unless you use very low pressure. Bleach is a bad bad idea. There are specialized limestone cleaners to use instead.
If it’s stucoo or thoroseal or something, have at it.
Dilute some bleach in a bucket of water, lightly brush it on, let it sit for a few minutes, rinse, all gone (until the next year.) Not a lot of effort required.

Go down to Home Depot and buy a pressure washer for $100. Drag it out each year and clean it off. Easy to get rid of for awhile.
I used Mex (a cleaning product that is really good and I got in a paint store), some water and a brush and it was gone (probably not forever, but for now)
