I need advice on buying pocket doors and hiring someone to install them. I’m looking for a four panel door. Is it worth it to take down the wall to insert a track on top instead of on the floor? Where do I begin? Thanks!

  1. I have some of the same questions. You can try to find salvage doors at Eddie’s on Grand and Green (and a few other places in town). You can also buy them new online. Interiordoors.com has pocket doors.

The Tinker’s Wagon on here *may* hang pocket doors but I’m not sure.

I don’t know anything about tracks but I doubt it’s worth taking down a wall for. Taking down a wall is a huge mess and expense. Why not just use a floor track like it probably had originally?

Last but not least, in measuring the openings for my pocket doors, I am beginning to suspect why the ones in our house might have been taken down in the first place. One opening is an inch smaller than the others. The floor has shifted an inch or two, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it were impossible to get pocket doors working again.

On Bob Villa’s site he explains how to check if the opening is plumb with diagonal lines of string.
