How to Remove a Stone Countertop Stain
I recently moved into a rental with this kitchen counter top in the photo. The website for the rental says it’s “natural stone” but I’m not sure exactly what kind, maybe granite? I recently moved into a rental with this kitchen counter top in the photo. The website for the rental says it’s “natural stone” but I’m not sure exactly what kind, maybe granite? I have been there only three weeks and I already have a yellowish stain where I was keeping a wooden/bamboo cutting board on the surface. Sometimes the cutting board was wet and I think somehow it stained the stone. Any idea of how to get the stain out?
Thanks.
SoftScrub works on quartz
Agreed with Tanner, because not all those surfaces need the sealant that’s used on granite or marble. We have quartz and sealant is not used on it, thankfully, because it’s toxic and a pain. I have never had food or wine or coffee etc stain the quartz, only a piece of hot pink paper that was sitting on the counter several days and had gotten wet. That left a faint small stain which did eventually fade and go away simply from the counter being cleaned daily. If your counter is quartz perhaps the stain will fade away eventually too.
That looks like a quartz composite, such as Caesarstone, Zodiaq, Cambria, Silestone, Daltile One, or the like. If you post a link to a real pic of your countertop (b/c the one above has a bit too much angle and glare to see it properly), I (or someone else) can likely identify it more accurately. IMO, it’s important to know what kind of counter you have before you decide how to treat a stain.
I cannot imagine prepping anything directly on the countertop — I alway use a cutting board or pastry cloth.
And you simply clean the counter and allow to dry. Apply the selaant and let it dry. I am sure it is a petroleum product (I need to buy more and redo mine or I would check my panty) so it is my definition not green.
This describes it — easy to do.

I doubt that it’s granite – more likely a marble. If the salt doesn’t work, try baking soda & peroxide in a paste – let sit, wipe off.
BH76 – Is the sealant harmful to food preparation on the counter tops?
Also don’t you have to sand it or something to put a sealant down or can you just put it on the existing stone without much preparation to the surface beforehand?
Thanks
Once the stain is out, you should seal the counter (stone sealant is available is most hardware stores, HD, etc.)
Yeah its funny, but stone can be more porous than one would guess (I had a rental with what looks like the exact same counter top).
Oh cool idea! Thanks, I’ll try that. I didn’t realize how delicate the stone was.
