Hi all, I have two old bi-fold closet doors that I would love to replace with an alternate system as they have scratched the floors, pulled out the door frame, lost much of their original hardware, and generally irritate me no end. If anyone has any suggestions about what can be done to replace them (the tracks extend into the interior closet walls beyond the door opening), and by whom, I would be extremely grateful. Thank you!

  1. I’ve used two sliding interior doors, cut to size. You need solid core doors to cut them down. I used panelled doors on a track and I like them a lot. On the floor you only have a small center guide to keep them plumb.

  2. Thank you for the advice; I should have mentioned that I can’t use the curtain strategy because I need to be able to keep my dog out of the shoes. Sorry!

  3. I would just remove the doors and all the associated hardware and replace it with a curtain. You can install a track inside the closet door frame (like the kind they use for hospital curtains), or just put up a rod. We replaced most of our closet doors with curtains, and it’s such an improvement because you don’t have to worry about clearance for doors opening.
