We want to install a steam shower in our top floor bathroom. It would be vented through the roof (vent already exists since we have w/d in this spot currently). Anyone have suggestions about brands of steam showers (all-in-one modular units vs custom), installation issues, good plumbers to hire, whether you like your steam shower, etc? Thanks, all.
I really do not know about having to tile the entire bathroom. In my shower I did the ceiling as well, but not outside of the shower. The exhause fan is right outside of the door, so it gets sucked out once the door is open. Have not really had any problems.
We have a Mr. Steam unit in our master bath and I love it. My only advice, which was passed on to me when we bought it is to aim high, on the size chart, relative to the unit you need. Meaning, if your square footage to steam is at or near their cutoff for a particular size, go one size higher. The last thing you want is a working unit that doesn’t put out enough steam.
the entire bathroom needs to be tiled as the moisture the steam gives off is huge and you do not want mold to accumulate in the rest of the bathroom. We installled a Steamist steam system in our shower which has a tiled seat and it is the most wonderful thing in the winter for clearing up any congestion in your body. we also use scented oils (peppermint, etc) that we place under where the steam comes out to make it spa like and it it an incredible experience. the entire shower needs to be enclosed for the steam to work well and to get to the tempeture it needs to be at.
Thanks for the feedback, Jock. I’ve read that the entire bathroom needs to be tiled and waterproofed, not just the steam shower enclosure itself. Can that be true?
I recommend it to all of my clients. You will really love it on a cold day. I installed a Mr. Steam in my house, had one problem a year or two later with the control panel and they took care of the issue with no cost. Install per the manuf’s recommendations. Make sure the ceiling of the shower is sloped away from where are going to sit. If the ceiling is sloped properly or is flat enjoy the cold rain.
