One of the doubledoors to the brownstone we are buying next week has a broken glass pane. This is a very typical, standard set of doors that are probably 7 feet tall with beveled glass. Can anyone provide a rough estimate of what the replacement cost should be – we need to include as a credit at closing. Any estimates are welcome, as are ideas on vendors that could replace it.
You will need tempered glass. it is required by code in all doors and lights next to doors. (or laminated but I don’t think that is available with a bevel).
I would say that with tempering and installation it will be a bit closer to $500.00.

I assume you just want to replace the broken glass? If the glass is half the door, 3/8 glass, non-tempered, 2″ bevel, you’re looking at around 150-200 dollars for the glass. Tempering will cost more, but is safer. Actually replacing it is very straightforward, not more than the cost of the glass, so maybe $400 total? I would use Bear glass at 399 20th St. for the replacement glass, any half-way decent handyman should be able to install.
