Folks, I hired a woman to install a combo washer/dryer, the only model that fits under the counter in my kitchen. her installation involved wooden shims and little pieces of rubber sticking out, and she pulled out and shoddily returned door molding, so i can’t even remove it–she was NOT authorized to do that (what will the landlord say?). i can’t get it out, it doesn’t work–shakes glasses from the cabinet. I’ve already paid her. She was recommended here, but will not return emails now. I need someone to fix this. I spent a great deal of cash on it, and am really upset…First time I’ve worked with a contractor. No wonder they have such reputations. Please recommend someone honest and reliable who can help me! Please!

  1. Based on what you’re saying, I think you’re being a little too gloomy. It sounds like if you can get someone who knows what they’re doing in there, they can fix the machine setup and patch up the damage to the kitchen. Even molding can be fixed up to look fairly close to the original.

Having a washer is worth a little extra money. Take a deep breath and know that the problem is limited and manageable.

  2. let’s see. it’s an under the counter w/d combo, and it’s right next to the door to the kitchen. shaking’s one thing. instead, it loosened the entire counter–caulking and grout and other foamy stuff oozed out–and shook glasses to the floor. she had to remove some molding to fit it in (or, rather, didn’t have to, but chose to rather than moving the cabinet over an inch). i had permission to install the machine, but not to cut into the molding. she did a terrible job patching up. the machien is unusable because of the shaking and caused a lot of damage in the kitchen. she did somethign else which is usable but not what we’d agree on. anyway, she refuses to come back. i can’t get return the machine, nor get it out without removing the molding, and then i’d have to put the molding back somehow, and i am not handy. i am, however, infuriated, a lot poorer, and, yes, screwed, and not in the good way.

  3. Can you post a picture of it?

I need a laugh, but also just to get a better idea of exactly what you are up against. The phrase “returned door molding” makes me laugh, cry, and cringe.

  4. I don’t understand your post. You’re saying the washer/dryer doesn’t work at all? Is it plugged in? Are the supply lines and waste properly connected so they don’t leak? Was there a standpipe there already to connect to? The installer is supposed to use shims and rubber feet to level the thing. That is correct, although they needn’t stick out. Why is door molding involved — this wasn’t installed in a door. Did you have permission from your landlord to install the appliance?

  5. Can’t tell how bad it is, but I am willing to take a look.
