Hi, I need to move a couch out of my apartment and I’m afraid it will not go out the door. I had movers bring it in and with much difficulty, they were able to do it. However, I will be moving the couch out myself, without an experts there to assist me. It is old and I don’t want it anymore, so I am okay with cutting it. But I’m wondering if anyone has any other suggestions of how to get the couch out, or someone who I might hire to come and cut the couch in half to get it out and generally how much that should cost.

Thanks.

  1. I listed a huge wall-unit that couldn’t be moved without major disassemblage in the free section on craigslist, and two guys came over and totally took it apart in three minutes. no damage to my place and no hassle.

  2. well i discovered when i tried to cut my sofa in half with a power saw that there were springs under pressure which basically exploded out when i cut the wooden frame…it was just luck that they didn’t sever a limb! that’s pretty crazy!

  3. take the door off its hinges (very quick — pins come out with a nail and a hammer).
Then take the feet off the couch.
Both are very quick and solve most couch moving issues.

You might need to take an arm off as well, but this is usually harder.

  4. do NOT pay someone 300 bux to take apart a couch. im mean for realz. i can find you 10000 people who will do it for 20 bux, myself included hahahah.

and what kinds of things will you find in a sofa? oooooh, that’s a secret. you gotta open one up and find out yourself. i will say tho you will find enough change to do laundry for months!
