Hello I was hoping someone could let me know if they thought being between 4th & 5th ave in sunset park in the 20’s was safe for a single female, and also any opinions on the walk up 4th to the subway (R at 25th or Prospect Ave.)I am supposed to sign a lease today but got a little concerned when i walked the area last night
Some guys look at women funny and say all sorts of things, usually leave white women alone, it annoyed my wife…but they never crossed a line.
don’t live there but i just looked it up look it up on spotcrime. seems like a perfectly good neighborhood, a few robberies of boedgas, delivery people etc which is to be expected in BK. no major crazytown stuff.
i think if you do the free registration, you can look back several years, as well as get emailed alerts as you continue to look in the neighborhood. (be sure to zoom in well and check the details if any, sometimes manhattan can get mapped in BK) Also, check nypd crimestats and compare it to the neighborhood you are living in currently. If you find a friendly cop, they might tell you where and when the crimes generally happen. I have gotten some fantastic tips.
Nabe is very safe
I know several twentysomething single women who live in this area; not an issue for them. Your anxiety will lessen a great deal upon moving in.
Of course standard safety rules always apply; know if there’s anyone near you on the street; don’t listen to headphones when walking empty streets; take a cab if plastered to the gills and solo.
Sent too soon…The buildings look a little rough, but generally, this is more a maintenance than a street crime or safety issue.
Hope you move in and enjoy the neighborhood-
People call it greenwood heights these days. It’s low key and safe.
I used to walk from the 25th St R to 22nd and 7th. Never had any problems or concerns.
The area is safe but it has some of the old school sketchy elements are still there. Its changed so much in just the last few years its hard to believe and it seems to be improving every day. There are some rough buildings on 4th that made me a little bit uncomfortable when I would walk home from the train (my brother lives a block away) but I never had any issues.
