I would like to give a strong recommendation to our gardener and landscape designer Julie Czeck. Julie completely redesigned and installed our garden in Prospect Heights and we are extremely happy with her work. She transformed it from a complete overgrown mess into an urban oasis.

Julie has been working freelance and for landscape design firms in Manhattan and Brooklyn for over 8 years. Her experiences include terrace/rooftop design and installations in Manhattan, complete back garden renovations in Brooklyn and general garden/horticultural maintenance and upkeep. She works with a crew of experienced horticulturists, masons, arborists, engineers, carpenters and nursery growers. Julie can be reached at 646.270.2830 or julie.czeck@gmail.com for additional information, portfolio references or to schedule a site assessment.

  1. I like the metal fence to the right; it lets you see green beyond the border of your yard. It’s a very nice effect as it makes your yard feel even larger. If it were fully enclosed it would look like a bowling alley. It also helps you get more sunlight and oxygen to your flowerbed there to the right.

  2. To answer some questions:

    1. We did this about four years ago – Julie continues to help us with ongoing maintenance. I don’t remember what we spent but it really wasn’t too bad. The garden itself is 100 feet deep.

    2. The idea with the back square was for it to be a “hidden” space for the kids to play in – so we have that heavily planted area in front of the the back square. We’ve since put a fort back there.

    3. We put in a sprinkler system which helped with the sod. The grass still looks good but not as good as this picture for sure. Our dog enjoys digging it up. We patch it every sping or every other spring with seed.

    4. Didn’t put the fence all the way around because the metal fence belongs to our neighbor. We did have the fence stained which has protected it from weathering.

  3. agree with the others about all the grass – i absolutely love it. It looks like a real lawn! Curious to know why you did not take the wood privacy fence all the way around to the right side. Bravo.

  4. Gorgeous! I had begun to wonder if anyone wants grass in their backyards anymore…all one seems to hear about are humongous patios. Your backyard is the stuff dreams are made of!
