I posted a question regarding radiant heat and I received very good answers. One of them, the last one, was from johnsailor, who explain that to overcome the problem of the hardwood being poor conductor of heat, in a retrofit application they use the usual aluminum heat transfer plates, with an special aluminum foil scrim covering the plate assembly and then a foam insulation (blown in place expanding foam) over that. He said that they have had very good luck with this approach.

What kind of foam, closed cell or open cell?
Besides the usual aluminum heat transfer plates, what kind of special aluminum foil scrim you used?
Anybody has any opinion about johnsailor’s opinion?
What is the most efficient boiler or hot water tank?

  1. Sally,

I’ve been following your posts and while I can appreciate your desire to hear from real customers, I think at this point you probably want to call in one of the more trusted plumbing firms for a consultation.

The two that people seem to like most here are Aladdin and Gateway.

I used Aladdin for my installation and will attest that they are highly competent and will generally steer you in the right direction. Gateway posts often in this forum and seems to also be highly reputable and knowledgeable.

I don’t think you have much to worry with either of them in terms of over-selling you.

You probably don’t have to go over much since it’s also likely that they’ve been reading your posts as well.
