We moved today to a house with a very tight swing to the 3rd (attic) floor stairs where new bedroom is….the frame is now waiting on ground floor blocking the whole house until I come up with a solution. I have heard of companies that come and dissemble your bed and reassemble it; can anyone direct me? Thanks so much on advance.

  1. Uh, Pete….let’s see: one, my daughter is over 6′ tall. A double seemed like a waste as when she goes to college we will use her room as an occasional guest room. Which brings us to couples who don’t want to be close to each other: my partner and I have a double bed, love each other very much and still very much want a queen. To some people, a bed is a respite and the extra space is welcome. But that’s IMHO.

  2. why on earth a queen bed for a one teenager? even a full is overkill.
King beds are for obese couples. Queens are for couples that really don’t want to sleep with each other.

  3. Bessie that is exactly what I am looking at. There is a place that advertises it all over Craigslist and it’s $250; they will come to your home within hours–obviously it’s a common problem. We just bought this house so I hope I am not moving again for a very long time.

  4. I had this problem at one of the places I lived. The box spring was about 5″ too big to clear the stair. The mover slit the cloth wrapping the box spring and went in and removed one angle of the wood frame, brought the boxspring up and then put it together again. It’s not something you can repeat over and over, but the boxspring was fine until I had to move again. I’d suggest this approach if you already have the boxspring.

  5. agree with others that mentioned a split box spring. have had one for years and it works just fine and makes moving in / out of brownstones so much easier. seriously, as far as sleeping on it, i can’t tell any difference from when I had the single queen boxspring to the two split ones that I have now.

  6. this is a reason some opt for a platform bed. can’t disassemble a box spring, you’ll have to get smaller ones or go for the platform.

  7. what DIBS said. it’s called a “split box spring” — google that.

I think it would be cheaper to buy one than disassemble to get in (and out)
