Good pizza in the N Slope???
I don’t live too far from the corner where the electronic sign was hijacked to say “F**k Ratner.” The pizza I’ve tried in the area, Gino’s, Bergen’s, the place on 5th & Prospect etc. has been lame in my eyes. Anyone know of a decent pizza joint where you can pick up a pie or…
I don’t live too far from the corner where the electronic sign was hijacked to say “F**k Ratner.” The pizza I’ve tried in the area, Gino’s, Bergen’s, the place on 5th & Prospect etc. has been lame in my eyes. Anyone know of a decent pizza joint where you can pick up a pie or just grab a slice (and not Franny’s–don’t like the place).
I haven’t missed Antonio’s, in fact I walk past it all the time. The pizza doesn’t look too enticing from the other side of the counter, and the reviews on chowhound etc. are dismal. But you guys have convinced me to give it a try. Otherwise, I might need to get myself all the way over to Tomato & Basil on 4th & Union.
Antonio’s for an excellent slice of neighborhood pizza. I’ve eaten there since 1985, when the place was owned by Tony and Ann. The pizza’s taste has remained consistent even after the place was sold to the present owners. When has anyone ever opted for pizza based decor as opposed to taste? Think Difara’s on Ave. J, with zero decor and $5 slices.
3rd for Antonio’s. how have you missed it? it was the only good pizza spot 10 years ago when i lived at the corner of bergen & flatbush. it was also the best thing delivering 7 years ago when i lived at Washington and St. John’s.
Not sure how close it is to you but there is a place on 7th Ave just off Prospect. It’s called “Friends” or something like that. I’ve only eaten there a couple of times but it’s pretty standard NYC pizza, not the best not the worst….
2nd the rec about Antonios- forgot about that place- and it’s often the latest thing open in the hood.
For a regular slice joint, there’s always Antonio’s at 318 Flatbush, just by the 7th Ave subway stop. The pizza there is pretty great. Years ago when the movie theater was open, the interior was very charming. Now all that survives is their great neon sign. But the food is still good. Check all the reviews on Yelp.
For something a little fancier, try Amorina on Vanderbilt at Prospect — it really rocks. They sell whole pies mostly but also have a special: two (smallish) slices and a soda for $5.
Sounds like you are looking for pre-locavore, pre-pizza trend, NY style pizza?
La Villa makes a good pie in this style, but it’s expensive. The place on 7th a block north of Union is OK for slices.
