Floor Repair Under Radiators
Does anyone have an idea of the cost to repair rotten parquet floorboards underneath (previously) leaky radiators? I don’t have the exact measurements of the radiators, but I would describe them as “slightly smaller than average”. The entire area under the radiators will need to be replaced. Also, does anyone have a recommendation for someone…

I actually had Verrazano do that sort of work for me in several rooms, but it was as part of an entire room refinishing job. Therefore, I have no idea of what they would charge for only that small section. I will, say, however, that I was extremely satisfied with the work they did in my house and that included simple refinishing as well as repairs of large sections of a floor, and also recreating borders to match elaborate borders elsewhere in the room. They did repair, renewal, and installation of entirely new floors in my house (in different rooms, obviously). I thought that they were reasonable given the high quality of work they did.
Your selection of a company to do this work for you will obviously depend upon how much the work will show as well as how demanding (anal retentive?) you are. [I confess that I am rather anal.]
They are not the cheapest. Someone else on here posted about replacing and matching her parquet and found a flooring company in Brooklyn that was very reasonable and did work she was happy with. Did not concern radiators.
I got a quote of $1700 to replace and level a larger patch using plywood on a pine subfloor from a flooring company. Makes $500 look cheap. But our regular contractor did it for much less, as part of a bigger job.
Wow, that seems pretty pricey for a little fix like that, doesn’t it? I didn’t realize that they had to replace eight feet for a three foot radiator. Hmmmm….we might have to rethink this one.
Thanks!
I had this priced by Verrazano Flooring once for under the radiator in my living room. The floors seemed stable enough but were getting unsightly. They wanted about $500 for the patch job which involved both the regular oak and a piece of the Maple/Mahogany border that goes around the room. They wanted to replace probably about 8 linear feet total (radiator was about 3 feet wide) so that they could stagger the patch and it would look seemless.
That being said we ended up just getting a very nice decorative radiator cover that hid the floor from view because we couldn’t get the radiator to stop leaking and I didn’t want to waste money on a new floor with a still-leaking radiator.
