I am trying to re-create this bathroom, and Classic Tile does not carry anything like this (the pale blue tile). Does anyone have a recommendation where might? Thanks you in advance.

  1. Thank you, Vinca, for that link. That twilight Blue is nice, though I did have my heart set on porcelain. Think its time to adjust the vision though…..

  2. Even if you find matching vintage tile, it’s unlikely you’ll find it cheap. Take a look at the liner tile on this page from Home Depot: http://bit.ly/ajaJIz
The Dal-Tile Twilight Blue might work for you. Maybe Mondial has inventory you can see and purchase in person. If using glass, make sure your tilesetter has experience. To keep glass color true, and make sure tile sticks, you must use WHITE thinset modified with latex. Also, cannot apply thinset with notched side of trowel (as with subway tile) or else the texture will show through.

  3. Yes Restoration Tile is great, but their price for these tiles is $6 EACH; their subway tile is $24/sf. I just don’t have that kind of money, as I need to do a whole 4.5 x 9 (or so) bathroom, but thanks.

  4. Restoration Tile in Arkansas will reproduce any tile exactly, right down to the crazing. If you need only a few tiles, their prices are very reasonable and there are no minimums. They also have many standard vintage style tiles such as these in stock at regular prices. I would definitely give them a call, they are very nice.

  5. I finally saw them…great suggestion, thanks. The subway tile were cheap and bought already; thank goodness they are ubiquitous around here.

  6. I hear you…that’s why I’m suggesting HD/Lowes and offering pictures that use a basic color in a nice way. Even white on white could give a nice touch without adding too much cost.

  7. Restorationtile.com has some nice drool-inducing pictures. Good for ideas.
I’ll try to attach one that is a clever use of the pencil tile..but if it doesn’t come thru check out the ‘Installations” page….about 3-4 pages in, in the shower…

  8. Not sure about Brooklyn. The tile I’ve seen has been in upstate NY. One business you might try is World of Tile in NJ: http://bit.ly/dDnhFU They do have vintage tile but won’t tell you much by phone except to come over with a sample. Might also be worth inquiring about the possibility of matching glazes and slab firing at a make-your-own pottery shop like Painted Pot on Smith St.: http://bit.ly/cjSyjg
