I have a brownstone with 2 two-bedrooms apts. One of my tenants I like very much and i would love for them to stay for as long as they want. The other tenant I want to kick out. I am about to send them a letter stating that I will not renew their lease and that in fact, they are free to leave up to 2 months before the end of the lease month which is August 2010.

These tenants make constant annoying requests. some are legitimate. But most requests are just unreasonable. the needle that broke the camel’s back for me is when they slightly insinuated that they could withhold the rent if I didn’t fix the wobbly doorknob. The door locks perfectly nice. The door knob is wobbly and i told them i would get to it shortly.

I do not like these people. I want them out of my house…Opinions, please..

  1. dipster can sympathise with all the whiney bratty female 20 something rents in broolkyn.

id just tell the complaining tenant about the doorknob to just sit on it.

  2. Your tenant doesn’t sound that annoying. If they are paying rent and not doing anything to damage your property – you are way ahead of the game.

I had a wobbly doorknob once and the wobbly doorknob became a broken doorknob in about 2 weeks, so your example of “annoyingness” doesn’t really convince me.

  3. Who wants bad vibes in one’s own house? So what you have to do is fix the doorknob, fix whatever else needs fixing and take care of biz, be civil and see how it goes. If things get better, great. If not, then think it over, because you have to feel happy in your own house. If the tenant is basically a decent person, things could change.

  4. Wow, a wobbly doorknob…. LOL.
When I rented in my building I am at now ( I own now) my doorknob to the apartment door, fell off, and I couldn’t get it back on. Yes, hole in the door… LOL, as time went on I just got used to putting the key in the door and pulling it, oh well…. The LL saw it about 5 months later and said how are you getting in and out, I told him, he did fix it….but he says to me Why didn’t you tell me……Ugh, I thought I could fix it myself, but anyway…..I knew adventually it would get fixed…. He says to me, I wish more of my tennants were like you…… I smiled and went on with life….. LOL

  5. When I was a female tenant in my 20s, and in my first apartment, I put up with no heat (in
December-January) and no working stove because I didn’t know any better! I used an electric blanket and an electric skillet. But eventually I wised up and broke the lease and they were smart enough not to pursue me to my next place. There the landlord fixed a light fixture with a bandaid instead of a wire nut…….But at least I had heat.

  6. Our last tenant was an adult female in her 20s, while the new one is a teenage female in her 20s. The first was a slob, but good in every other way; the new one, in addition to her locking problem has also been deliberately late with the rent in both months. But she’s friendly and neat.
    Whatever. Can’t win.
Guvna I like that idea, and would gladly provide that service myself for other landlords in this situation.

  7. Commodore, pay a male streaker to pay her a visit the next time she leaves the door unlocked. pay him extra if he exhibits a boner. If that doesnt work, have the next dude wear a Scream disguise.

  8. 23 year old female.. xactly!

while i hate to be nasty about this issue, female tenants in their 20s are just dramarama!

dont rent to them! i KNOW it’s nice to your rent check is coming from her parents out in iowa, but still, save yourself the hassle..
