Anyone know a source for old-style beadboard? We’ve got it lining our kitchen except on one wall where it was ripped out by a previous owner. Now we need to find the matching beadboard to cover that wall so we can finish the kitchen and start using it already.

I’ve been to Dyke’s Lumber and looked at all the beadboard suppliers online. No one has it.

We need tongue and groove beadboard with only one inch of flat expanse between each grouping of two v-shaped (I think) beads.

And if no one makes it, is Beadboard.com the best place to have a copy made?

  1. it has a good old-fashioned look to it. i like the brown glossy finish. looks like some of the woodwork in my house, though not the kitchen.

  2. Cool, BHS. I’d love to see the pics of your renovation also!

Re replacement….the old stuff is all over the kitchen, it would actually be quite difficult to replace. Though we did consider covering with sheetrock.

  3. I’d love to see your blog, by the way. I think we share a passion for original kitchens and baths. Recently “finished” a renovation myself.

  4. hmm, what about replacing what’s there with the new stuff so you dont have to match it? I know that’s heresy coming from me, but seems like it might be much easier. I didnt see the v-cut in the picture and so thought it was the typical. that sink faucetlooks familiar, ha ha.

  5. i thought this stuff was commonly available. A friend of mine recently renovated a bathroom and beadboard was the cheapest wall covering. It looked nice too (painted white). Sorry I dont have a source for you.

  6. Car siding is a type of wainscoting consisting of vertical boards (similar, I think, to what was used on old-fashioned wooden passenger railroad cars) . I have it in my ground floor hallway. It may be slightly more elaborate than beadboard, but I’m not sure.

  7. Thank you so much for your post, Steve. This is really helpful. FWIW, we need a fair amount of the stuff — I think 12 linear feet, plus varying heights.

I don’t want to discourage others from posting too though by my reply. Does anyone else have experience with this? Brenda, sounds like you have the same beadboard in your kitchen too. Also I see Gavin Young Maloney has restored several houses with this beadboard.
