I am looking to redo the entire heating system of my brownstone. I’ve heard about the Runtal radiators and also Jaga. Any experience? Opinions? I would be interested in low temperature radiators, in case in the future I incorporate the solar hot water on the roof.
If anybody has installed these radiators or any other brand that uses low temperature, I would like to know the opinion.

  1. Hi,

I read the comments and I would like to ask if anybody has experience replacing cast iron hot water radiators for wall panel radiators without using a thermostat. The hot water system from our 1920-co-op (close to the Cloisters in Manhattan) carries a lot of residue and a thermostast will need protection via shut-off valves and Y-strainers in both sides (in and out) to avoid blockage from flow/backup. Since the strainers must be cleaned, they should be installed within reach, implying extra-pipes and possibly bents that are more difficult to do with black pipe (co-op’s preference).

In light of that, I would like to know whether anybody has succesfully installed wall runtal panels wo thermostat valves.
..Whenever our current cast irons release more heat than needed, we open the windows a bit. Likewise, we just wear a sweater when the heating is poor. The important thing for us is to gain space and get two bulky cast irons out of our 800 SF.

  2. We replaced our crappy radiator in our bathroom with a Runtal hydronic towel warmer and love it, especially this time of year. Agree with the need to be thoughtful about sizing.

  3. I Runtal installed in my house and have no complaints. Just need to be sized properly. Alot of my clients use them too.

  4. when using panel radiators like runtal for low temperature application,it has to be sized 20% more than what is needed to compensate for the low water temperature operation. This gives it more surface area for the heat for convection. The jaga radiator compensates for this by having their unusual shape increase the surface area and the use of computer fans to create a mechanical convectional draft.I have installed runtal radiators and they perform pretty well.
