Take a look at this group of young architects…

They are also the architects for a gut rehab which will hopefully get underway this spring. 1 family house to 5 condos at 123rd street amd Mt. Morris Ave.. I saw the layouts and specs.. beautiful – really adds sincere value to the building. Ask to see this Harlem Landmark drawings.
If you have not decided yet who to work with, and would like to get a second opinion, please give ma a call at 917 655 3372.
I offer you free advice on what can be done and what should not (there are very few things which can not be done, they are just not economically reasonable).
Working for last 10 years in that business I can recommend you good contractors or very good ones.
Also my company is capable to cover entire process (We are licensed) starting at conceptual design – and ending at construction management.
best regards
rad.
Bill (Rohlfing) – Surprisingly I realized we had some connection to you… We went through your shell on 120th Street a few months ago and loved it (except for the dead cat – that was a bit freaky), but given the development possibilities your price was above our budget, so we’re buying a place a few blocks away.
Thanks again to everyone who responded. We’ve decided on an architect and are now starting to evaluate general contractors. On the GC side we have 4 options, each very different and good in their own way. Two of the 4 we found thanks to Brownstoner… 🙂
Hello,
I am an Architect in NYC. I have experience with townhouse renovations, downtown and in Harlem. I owned a townhouse on 149th Street…bought it at an auction…went through SRO process, gutted it, renovated it, did the Architecture for it as well as C.M.’ed the project. Restored the facade (I have the best contractor for this)…

More details…
It’s a 5 story brownstone that will be configured as a two family residence – a 4 story owner’s unit over a ground floor rental. It’s essentially going to be new construction inside an old shell – the place has been completely gutted (even the floors have been removed) so there are no original details to preserve. We will restore the façade and the stoop, but given a blank slate inside we’re going to go for a fairly minimal and contemporary living space.
The other trick is to find an architect and GC who can deliver something substantially better than “design on a dime” (that wears out in 5 years) without going crazy like they might with an Upper East Side or West Village townhouse.
I strongly recommend my architect, David Cunningham, who’s been incredible working with me on my whole-house renovation. He is amazingly knowledgeable, has great design ideas, and has gone out of his way to work with me on style and within my budget. He has all the contacts you could possibly need — HVAC, structural engineers, expediters, asbestos people, solar, as well as GCs. His coworker has been fabulous in helping me decide on cabinets, tiles, flooring, faucets, the lot. David has also saved me a fortune by negotiating with all these subcontractors and the GC — something I’m not very good at. Give David a call. DCAP PLLC: 718-208-0815 or david at dcapny dot com. If you want to talk to me about him, contact me at housereno at earthlink dot net.
Just finished one with Osh Elbaz of My Home, (917) 468-9350
If you still need an architect, give me a call. I have references and completed alot of projects. Jock deBoer, AIA, 718-354-7926
I’m restoring my brownstone’s facade and adding a bay window, and I’m using someone who did a gut reno of a friend’s BH carriage house. I love his work.
