Hi- I have a relatively small kitchen that I want to renovate- no plumbing or electric work- just new cabinets, countertops and floor. AM I better off working with someone who will do it all or go directly to a retail place , buy the items and have them install? Anyone have any firms they recommend? Has anyone worked with Perfect Renovations in the Heights?
We used Perfect Renovation to remodel our entire apartment about a year ago, including our kitchen and bath. It came out just GREAT! We love the design ideas and were impressed by the fact that they finished ahead of the schedule, worked with us closely and saved us a lot of time and money. Our friends have used them to remodel their kitchen before and had an excellent experience as well.
4 years ago we did our bathroom ourselves with the help of a small contractor that was recommended to us and he was horrible, we had to redo it all over again. our lesson is that it does not pay at the end of the day to save on the cost of professionals.
Hi,
I am a furniture/cabinetmaker. For kitchen reno’s, I pair up with a reliable and meticulous contractor.

based on my experience renovating a small kitchen, I say go with a GC. I attempted to get in touch touch with Perfect renovations, but like others, not much luck in hearing back. when I finally did get a call from them, I had already interviewed 3 other contractors and finally settled on one. too little too late!
WE are using Zurita Contractors–Gustavo Zurita, and are having a very good experience so far (see previous posts about our 1970’s kitchen reno).
Seems like Perfect-Renovation only wants design build jobs these days…. Screw them, i see their workers in Home Depot seeming lost with their Red T-Shirts… If you are picking out cabinets yourself then u dont need a company like them, Id go with a GC who can install & make necessary adjustments, Have the GC assist you with the proper measurements for cabinet placing, fillers, etc. Try Al Rosario @ (917) 573-3304.
Hello there,
I have had a really good experience working With Mr.Patrick and his team. They do all types of renovations despite how small or large the project is. I had them renovate two bathrooms for me and they did a great job. Mr. Patrick just completed working on my neighbors kitchen which I am sure he would gladly show you. He provides good service and his work is beyond the price you will pay. If you are interested you could reach him at 1646-945-7315. If you would like to see pictures of my bathroom I could gladly e-mail them to you. Just let me know.
If you need help with the design than go with an inhouse design shop, same if you do not have the time to solicit bids for all the various types of work. I know a good company, based in Manhattan but that works in all areas. Drop me a line if you want their info.
Ditto what Brownstonerlogin said about Perfect Renovation. I live down the block from them and attempted to get a bid from them 5 years ago when we were about to reno our kitchen. I called several times and was always promised a project manager would call me back, but they never did, so I walked in and was told no one was available but someone would call me later that day and of course, they didn’t. A week later we had interviewed and gotten bids from a handful of other GCs and finally picked one (Knopka – I’ve recommended them many times in these forums). The next day someone from Perfect Reno finally called me and I basically told him to suck it. They clearly thought they were too good for our kitchen reno (when did a $15-$20k job become small?) and I’ve since heard not-so-great things about them, so I was actually lucky that they blew their chance.
Given the fairly clear scope of what you want to do, you can definitely just go straight to a general contractor. You’ll find load and loads of good recommendations in these forums, so just meet with a few to explain what you want, get quotes, and get a sense of who you’re comfortable with. Many can also help give you design/finishing ideas if you’re not entirely decided, and they can purchase materials for you or you can do it yourself. (I can recommend Bernie Belkin, 917-825-4527. Super nice guy, loads of Brooklyn experience, crew does good work.)
Unless you really have no idea what you want, or want to be completely hands-off, I definitely don’t think you need to go with a design/reno firm (like Perfect Renovation–who will likely tell you your project is too small for them anyway, as they did for our entire gut reno of our small kitchen).
Good luck! It’s not that hard. 🙂
