Hi
I live in a newly constructed condo and the hardwood floors, which are Brazilian cherry, have begun to show some spacing between the joints. Nothing major, but I’m wondering if this is typical or if it’s something I need to be concerned about. Could it be the extended cold weather that is causing the wood to contract a bit? It’s ground floor duplex apt and the floors were installed in early spring of 2009.
Any insights appreciated!
thanks guys – haven’t seen any buckling and the spaces are very narrow. will keep an eye on them.
Introduce some humidity into the space. See how the floor reacts during the summer months. I’d be concerned if the floor buckles under the high humidity or if the cracks are bigger than 1/16″ in the cold, dry weather

The dry winter weather more so than the cold weather. These will probably close up as winter rolls around to a wet spring.
