We are moving toward contract on a house that needs a complete gut reno (gutting down to the joists). The house has asbestos wrapped pipes in the basement and floor tiles with asbestos in basement and some lead paint throughout. My question: is there a company that will do proper, legal demolition and disposal of this job (both the asbestos and lead and the rest of the non-toxic elements of the house) or do I need to hire an asbestos removal co and lead abatement co separate from a demo company? any recommendations? The house is 4 floors (including basement) and is 20×50. Any idea what a demo of this size house will run us?
thanks !

  1. definitely a good idea to have the asbestos taken care of properly before the general demo happens. would be a nightmare if there was a misunderstanding or the demo guys ignored your wishes and “handled it” themselves. getting it done right first removes this possibility.

He does the testing for my Brooklyn and SI clients. He also does removal. Not sure about lead.

we have been using them for lead abatement for a few years. never for asbestos, but they handle that too.

  5. You need to hire a certified asbestos removal company to get rid of all the asbestos BEFORE you bring in the demo guys. Not sure about the lead paint altho I wouldn’t think so.
