Does anyone know whether I can substitute a transformer that puts out 12V & 600 mA for one that puts out 12V & 800mA? Will it just not work or will it ruin the piece I’m trying to power?

  1. yep it will be fine.

Also if you have tip polarity issues you can just cut the cable and use twist the wires to reconnect with electrical tape alternate to the original.

  2. Thanks, Alex. The unit I’m trying as a temporary measure is supposedly “universal” but I’ve had polarity problems w/ it on other gadgets. Will check.

  3. Yes it will work without issues. You can substitute a transformer with a larger current rating as long as the output voltages are equal. You should also verify AC or DC output and if the transformer you are replacing has a regulated output. An unregulated transformers voltage output will vary with the attached load. Many electronic items require a regulated transformer. Also check that the polarity of the new transformers output wires or attached plug match the one being replaced.
