Hi-
Looking for some advice- we are just wrapping up the sanding and finishing of an apartment. It was a full day’s job for 4 guys with the final coat of poly going on tomorrow. Should we tip these guys? If so, how much? They definitely worked hard and got it done quick and looking good. Advice appreciated!
Don’t tip. If they did a good job – they did what was expected from your boss/worker social and business contract. You can tell the crew boss what a great job they and will give good recommendations.
If you are set on tipping though, nothing is stopping you.
Raphael, they are workers and it doesn’t matter what crew they are. If yanks21 is happy with their work, an extra $80 won’t hurt anyone and these guys will appreciated it.
tip floor refinishing crew? what is this, a taxi?
I agree with queenoftheclick2 that $20 each is in order. Necessary? NO, but be a mensch.
I have tipped workguys on jobs, (esp. if they were doing heroics and I suspected they were getting underpaid by the GC), but I confess I have never tipped floor guys; it’s usually a quick and straightforward job to sand and poly and I just presumed the price was the price. Hope I didn’t goof and stiff the poor guys from an expected tip…do others tip their floor guys under ordinary circs?
If they worked hard and you are happy with the work – give them a tip. I can’t say what the tip should be, but $20 a man would be appreciated I’m sure. It pays for DINNER and let’s them know you appreciate their work.
You could also give the total to the head of the group and let him split it between the men.
When I am doing well and can spare money, I tip well (example – my moving company men did a full day of running up and down two floors in both homes – tip: $50 a man. I was happy and I wanted them to be happy )
Who did your floors? Are you happy with the final result? We’re about to start the floor process and would love to know how it went for you. Thanks!
