I’m taking a poll:

What are rents like in the southern end of Bed Stuy (ie: Stuyvesant Heights area)?

I’m getting ready to rent a garden floor apartment, approximately 800sf with garden access so I’m curious what average rents are like in the neighborhood.

  1. Yes Stuy Heights is so great and so are the surrounding brownstones as well.

It’s so funny because I was going to ask how much should I rent a 3 bedroom, 2 bath duplex. No backyard access but place is over 1,000 sq and lots of storage and its in Stuy Heights.

  2. $1400 plus is not too much if the apartment is in Stuy Heights or has more than one bedroom.

Hollifer, Stuy Heights is the nicest area in Bed Stuy architecturally and in terms of the restaurants, bookstores, cafes, etc.

As for safety, I wouldn’t leap to any conclusions one way or another. I wouldn’t say this area is “safe” and the other areas of Bed Stuy are “unsafe.”

  3. I’m currently renting a 2 bedroom 4th floor walkup on Macdonough between Marcy/Tompkins for $1,400 with heat and hot water included, we pay electric.

  4. I rent on macdonough btw stuy and lewis $1500 renovated kitchen and bath 1.5 bedroom landlord provides heat and hot water I pay everything else.

  6. Hi Everyone –

I’m looking for a studio/1 BR in the prices ranges given on this post ($1100 or below). My move date is very flexible since I don’t need to vacate my current place, but am looking to move by June.

I’m new to NYC (from Boston). Can you tell me about Bed-Stuy? People have told me that the safe/desirable area is actually a small corner of it. Could anyone explain this? I’ve noticed that rents are very cheap in the area and it’s close enough for a decent commute into Manhattan. I have a car and cat.

Also, I posted a thread in this forum yesterday about me looking for a place.

    Thanks!
