Mantel Mirror Value?
Ok, my wife hates this mirror. What is it worth? I have no idea. I think it’s original to the house, so that puts it about 1860. It’s huge. Also going to be selling the mantel as well. Intend to replace them with something my wife actually likes, and yes they will be period pieces,…

Intend to replace them with something my wife actually likes, and yes they will be period pieces, she just doesn’t like these (don’t get me started).
oldbaby, if your wife reads the thread, you may be able to keep the mirror after all.
Why not restore it to its original beauty? Your wife might like it much better then and it is criminal, imho, to rip out that beautiful mantle and mirror. Without it all you’ve got is another NYC box. I understand loving modern, but you’re steward for the house. Why ruin it?
I’m currently restoring my house in Bedstuy and would LOVE to have both pieces.
My back parlor is missing the Mirror and i can use the Mantle for my Bedroom. I will pay cash and pick up. If the pieces have sentimental value just know thats its going into a beautiful house and will be taken care of.
You can reach me at deh9054@nyp.org.
Thank you
Will your wife look that good after 140 years? Even all painted up??
Kenny Rogers said it best….
You’ve painted up your columns and crown and polished your looking glass.
Oldbaby are you contemplating putting it out somewhere?
The Shadow on the wall tells me the mirror is coming down –
Olbaby-
Don’t take your mirror down
It wasn’t me that started that old crazy reno war
But I was proud to go and do my patriotic chore
And yes, it’s true that I’m not the man I used to be…
Old mirror I still need some company.
Its hard to love a mirror whose frame is covered with such paint
And THE WANTS AND the needs of a mirror your age, Oldbaby, I realize,
But it won’t be long i’ve heard them say until I’M not around
Oldbaby,
Don’t take your mirror down own
She’s leavin’ now ’cause I heard the slammin’ of the door
The way I know I’ve heard it slam one hundred times before
And if I could move I’d get my gun and put her in the ground
Oldbaby,
Don’t take your mirror down
Tell your wife
God sakeS turn around
keep in in storage. If you ever sell, it will be a selling point to have the mirror. It would be worth more if not painted, but it is still easily worth a couple of thousand.
Would turning it 90deg appease your wife ;)?
If it’s original to the house, you might want to keep it in storage if it’s such an eyesore to your wive. When reselling a house original details are a + for many potential buyers.
Is that your wive to the left of you when you were taking the picture. If you do sell the mirror/mantle, with some of the money you get, can you buy her some clothes.
Ask the people at Circa Antiques on Atlantic Ave.
You can store them in my basement (the mantel not your wife) 😉
