Last summer, our next door neighbors decided excavate their yard and replace the existing soil with clean fill and organic soil. To aid in this task, they placed a dumpster on the street which is mostly in front of our house so as not to block access to their yard via a side pathway. The dumpster has been there for five months and I’m getting sick of it for obvious reasons – it’s a eyesore, it’s attracting illegal dumping, it’s taking up a parking space etc. When we spoke to the homeowners, they pretty much told us to mind our own business – that they’re making an organic garden for their children and how dare we interfere with that- which I was kind of shocked by. Their plan is to keep the dumpster there until they finish the yard in the springtime. Since it’s an illegal dumpster, can I resolve this whole issue with a 311 call? I’m not worry about retribution or losing a cherished friendship since they’re being such jerks.
You should order another dumpster in their name to be placed in front of their house. Then when they get seriously enraged and call the dumpster guy to pick it up, wait out front and make sure dumpster guy picks up the one in front of your house instead. Then invite neighbors to dump all their garbage in the new one in front of your lame neighbor’s house. Film the whole thing and broadcast an expose on BCAT.

THIS is what is wrong with nyc today.

IMBY, that’s a great link to know about. the next time Paragon is throwing away skiing equipment I’m going check for their permit. Without a permit their security has no right to prevent you from taking stuff. I can hardly wait until Spring!
By the way, the permit is only $50 and is good for 90 days.
That is good way to get it removed. everyone drop off a bag.
Before you call 311 you can check if they have a permit….

You could also post their address as I have some old cinderblocks i need to get rid of.
Permit is required but it costs more than the fines so many people opt not to get them. Yes, report to 311 or Sanitation.
Yes, a permit is required.
They need a permit to park it on the street. Call 311 and be sure to point out it is not yours since they were nice enough to park it in front of your house.
