Last summer, our next door neighbors decided excavate their yard and replace the existing soil with clean fill and organic soil. To aid in this task, they placed a dumpster on the street which is mostly in front of our house so as not to block access to their yard via a side pathway. The dumpster has been there for five months and I’m getting sick of it for obvious reasons – it’s a eyesore, it’s attracting illegal dumping, it’s taking up a parking space etc. When we spoke to the homeowners, they pretty much told us to mind our own business – that they’re making an organic garden for their children and how dare we interfere with that- which I was kind of shocked by. Their plan is to keep the dumpster there until they finish the yard in the springtime. Since it’s an illegal dumpster, can I resolve this whole issue with a 311 call? I’m not worry about retribution or losing a cherished friendship since they’re being such jerks.
Wait, modsquad, Paragon throws out perfectly good ski stuff they haven’t sold? That’s like the story in the NYT about H&M slashing and throwing out unsold clothes. Clothes could be donated for the poor to wear so that story was more shocking perhaps, but the ski equipment could be donated to youth groups or given to Salvation Army to sell. How disgusting. Next time you see Paragon doing this take a photo and send to the NYT.
let’s put some asbestos insulation in the dumster and then call inspectors. Organic soil my a$$.
Curious, how is this not filled to the brim, 5 months later? In the meantime, you might as well do some house or yard renovations yourself!
You all are vicious 🙂 Continue to try some dialogue with them and just ask them to bump it over. Then if all else fails call 311. Make a report at your local precinct (get a copy) go to your Community Board meeting or call the Sanitation Department and ask for the inspector (guy who drives around in the car with the blue and orange racing stripe down the side) to stop by and begin to issue tix’s. The inspector guy can sometimes be found on trash day following behind the trucks (looking for illegal trash). Be sure to get his name, his managers name and a phone number.
Also helps to get a phone tree started in your block and have everyone on it call until the wheel gets greased. Good luck.
You might choose the right moment to inform them that their neighbors soil is not “organic” and probably high in lead content. Many row houses that used to burn coal, dumped the ash in their back yards. The ash was high in lead. Unless they can prevent water from crossing between the new and old soil, it will not be long before their “organic” garden is contaminated as well.
i agree with raphael – give em a taste of it
“You should order another dumpster in their name to be placed in front of their house. ”
it would be cheaper to call 311
Know anyone with a dump truck? Get him to push the container in front of their house
just curious – where is this happening (nabe?)
