Furnace replacement question
We are looking to replace our furnace that is about 25 years old and were hoping to get in on the $1500 rebate. We had someone give us an estimate and he said we can’t get the rebate because all of the qualified furnaces (energy star, 90+ eff.) must vent directly outside, which ours would…
We are looking to replace our furnace that is about 25 years old and were hoping to get in on the $1500 rebate. We had someone give us an estimate and he said we can’t get the rebate because all of the qualified furnaces (energy star, 90+ eff.) must vent directly outside, which ours would not. Can anyone verify this for me? Does $5700 sound reasonable for a 80 efficiency, variable speed, 70,000BTU Carrier with humidifier installed?
Safety is the main concern for home buyer. Some home inspectors will open up electrical panels to look at wiring but others will not but all home inspectors should check out! You can visit http://equityinspection.com// site to hire an certified home inspector!
My gas bill last month was $220. That’s a gut reno with a SIX BURNER TWO OVEN Wolf range, lol!!!
That’s in a single family w 2000 sft on two floors plus a 1000 sft basement, half of which is finished.
That’s also with a Lochinvar KN150 mod/con boiler and indirect water heater.
We insulated the shit outta the house during the reno.
oh dear. I have 100y/o boiler and paid ~$700 for oil in past month. Time to replace boiler. 🙂
Yes, you’re lucky or have done the right stuff. My house is 4 storey 3000sqft but the heat is off on top floor. Yearly bills around 3500. No insulation and tape over multiple window leaks…guess have to insulate loft by next year
RG, you have a bigger house than I do. I have a garden level, a parlour level and a top floor…my thermostat is on the parlour level. I have thermal pane windows too.
Duct work can be cleaned, but it depends how it is laid out and where access panels were installed.
No experience with this outfit, but if you google you can find a bunch of duct cleaners in NYC

DIBS,
Your gas bill is exceptionally low. Our last bill (35 days to Jan 4th) was $580.
The problem is that the basement temp (where the thermostat is located) is set at 68, but the parlor floor and the two top ones are then at an uncomfortably high 73.
Did you insulate your basement floor both to the outside and the cellar ?
I appreciate your willingness to share your experience with your brownstone.
No, cmu. I get billed monthly as well. That was Nov + Dec, actually through Jan 9.
I was very surprised how low my gas bills were the first Winter I owned the place…the whole year was around $1,800.
I did insulate my cockloft and my skylights.
DIBS, sure that’s not ONE month? NG now bill monthly. Mine was 640 for Dec!
